"I've had zero complaints when asking my girls to wear these facemasks. My daughter likes to wear her mask around the house, so comfort must be an A+!"
— Steph S. from MN
Where are the facemasks made?
The facemasks are handmade by Laura Radniecki, a mama of two in central Minnesota. Laura cuts, assembles, and sews the masks during naps and after bedtime, and occasionally while the kids make a gigantic mess on the floor of her craft room.
What makes these facemasks different?
The main difference between these facemasks and the rest we've seen are the ear loops. Instead of using standard elastic or hair ties which are notorious for causing ear pain, our ear loops are made with hand-cut/hand-rolled knit fabric. They're so soft and stretchy, they are the #1 compliment people give our masks. Besides the great ear loops are the chic, beautiful limited-edition fabrics and the versatility of having a mask that is fully reversible and can be worn two different ways, essentially giving you FOUR masks in one.
What do "reversible and two ways to wear" mean?
Reversible means you can wear these masks with the colorful fabric on the outside, OR you can turn them inside out and wear them with the white polkadot fabric on the outside. This gives you two completely different color options.
Two ways to wear means the masks can be worn either with the swoop edge up over your nose, or flipped around with the straight edge up over your nose. Depending on your face shape, personal fit preference, and whether you wear glasses or not, you will likely find a favorite way to wear it.
Who do the adult and kids sized masks fit?
Though we hesitate to use the term "one size fits most," that's generally true when it comes to these masks. The adult masks are geared towards women (or men with heads on the smaller size) but Laura's husband wore one in a pinch and it fit just fine. The stretchy ear loops help a lot to accommodate varying head shapes and sizes.
The kids masks are generally sized for kids ages 3-7. Depending on the child's size, they may work for slightly older kids too, but that is the age range they are designed for.
Do the masks have a nose wire or a filter pocket?
No, these masks do not have a nose wire or a filter pocket. The reasons we chose not to add nose wires are 1) We want our masks to be durable and able to withstand washing without fear of rust etc, and 2) We want to keep the price of the masks as low as possible, and that requires streamlining the assembly and creation process. The second reason listed above is also one of the reasons we chose not to add a filter pocket. We want our masks to be fully reversible, and we're committed to making masks that are as easy to breath through as a safe facemask can be. For all of these reasons, our masks do not have nose wires or filter pockets.
How should I wash the masks?
As with most handmade clothing, washing by hand is the best way to preserve and maintain the masks. However, these masks are made with pre-washed, pre-shrunk fabric and are stitched with the intention of being durable and long-lasting. They should be able to handle machine washing just fine. Laura washes her masks in the washing machine and dries them in the dryer on low heat; so far so good.
How long does it take for my masks to arrive?
Every single facemask is cut, assembled, sewn, and packaged by Laura. We are working on having some inventory ready to ship, but most of the masks will be made to order. You can expect your masks to ship in 7-10 days (or less) from the time you place your order. At this time, the masks are available for US shipping only.
NOTE: For the health and safety of all, the masks are nonrefundable. However, if you are truly unhappy with your mask, please send me an email at firstname.lastname@example.org so we can discuss your issues.
